November is usually when my strong cravings for strawberries surface. The persistent craving of fresh berries lasts most of the winter season. Now that berry season has finally arrived, my taste buds couldn’t be happier. To me, berries are the epitome of Spring.

Spring also equals the beginning of picnics….

Step aside soggy fruit salad, that often makes a shameful appearance on the picnic table, and enter this flavorful mixed berry salad. A sure crowd pleaser, with it’s bold fresh flavors, bright colors, and intoxicating berry smell; hold your head high and proudly place this dish on the picnic table.


Summer Berry Salad with Lime & Basil

Recipe Type: Fruit, Vegan, Gluten Free
Serves: 8 (makes about 4 cups)

INGREDIENTS

16 ounces (454 g) Strawberries, tops removed and cut into blueberry size pieces
6 ounces (170 g) Blackberries
12 ounces (340 g) Blueberries
Juice of 1 Lime
5-6 Leaves Fresh Basil Leaves, finely chopped

INSTRUCTIONS

Wash strawberries, blackberries and blueberries
Remove strawberry tops and dice into pieces about the size of a blueberry
Add all berries to a medium size bowl, with lime juice and chopped basil.
Gently stir to combine.

Serve immediately or at room temperature.
Store leftovers in the refrigerator, in an airtight container. Consume within 3 days.
